Net Revenue Retention (NRR)
NRR = (renewing + expansion - downgrades - churn) ÷ starting revenue. Includes expansion.
What it is
The most honest SaaS health metric. Above 100% = company grows from existing customers alone.
Common mistake
Confusing NRR with gross retention. Gross excludes expansion; NRR includes it. NRR can be 120% while gross is 90%.
Healthy pattern
World-class SaaS NRR: 130%+. Healthy: 110-120%. Concerning: under 100%.
